WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2 IS ALSO AVAILABLE ON A FREE CD FROM MICROSOFT
Microsoft has started automatic downloads for Windows XP Pro.
It had recently begun downloads for the XP Home version.

At more than 80 megabytes, SP2 is a hefty download, especially for
people who have dial-up Internet connections. However, Microsoft is
trickling the download, so individual computer users won't even notice.

If a user goes off-line before the download completes, it picks up
at that spot when the user returns to the Web.
Microsoft has SP2 on a free
CD, too. It's worthwhile to have, even if you use automatic update.

You never know when you might have to install again--say, if your
system crashes and you need to reinstall XP. You don't even have to
pay shipping for this CD. To get it, go to the Microsoft site at:

>>>NOTE FOR USERS WITH AMD PROCESSOR IN THEIR PC:-->
>>>SP2 CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR AMD 64-BIT COMPUTERS:
Microsoft has acknowledged a conflict with some computers using
AMD's 64-bit chip. Service Pack 2 could cause these computers to
restart repeatedly.

The 64-bit chip includes a feature--data execution prevention--to keep
some programs from running. It is intended to block malicious software.
But there's a conflict with Sigma Designs' Hollywood Plus DVD decoder
application and a particular file--mpegport.sys.

Microsoft has instructions for ending the conflict on its site.
It says if the problem continues, users should uninstall SP2. :O
Microsoft needs to resolve this conflict fast.

I've got SP2 and it's been stable since installation..
a small glitch with Outlook Express has yet to be resolved
but so far... nothing major has presented itself..
Euan is kind of right. I had to wait some weeks for rare file downloads too ;(
