the amount of points you lose/gain depends on the point difference between you and your opponent. For example, if you were a 300+ point player and you beat someone rated 0, you would only receive a few points as the chances of you winning are very high. However, if you lost against someone rated 0 you would lose a lot of points as the result is unexpected. This may be what happened in your case, hope this helps.
